I have heard of Desperado Sports Bar since I moved here...for their wings. Coming from the land of circa 1999/2000 at Bolo's (a restaurant in Meridian that had the BEST wings EVER), I'm pretty particular about my wings. Nothing has come close. Until tonight.
After two phone calls to see if they had a) more food than just wings since Nic doesn't like them and b) salad because that's what she did want for dinner, we decided to try them out. And then we had to figure it out...yes, you seat yourself...yes, you order at the bar, thanks Nic for finding that out for us or we'd STILL be sitting there...and yes, you can have two sauces per order of wings.
First thing I see on the menu, after deciding that I am for sure getting hot sauced wings, are the clam strips. YUM! We all ordered and anxiously awaited the famous wings (Trav got BBQ, Ben got teriyaki).
They were the best wings I've had since Bolo's. And now they are my most favorite since Bolo's no longer exists. My first sign they were hot...and by hot, I mean
THE.SPICIEST.THING.I.HAVE.EVER.EVER.EATEN
the little bit of sauce that was on the celery was the beginning of the fire. And the only way to make the spicy go away is to keep eating. I'm telling you. These guys don't mess around.
After everyone had tried their food, and food shared (except me...no one will share my spicy-ness in my Missoula-world except Beth) I asked around to see what everyone thought. Nic said hers was good but she doesn't like generic ketchup. I asked, "but other than that...it's good?". She said, " yes, but I'm not real certain you're going to live!!"
We all made it out of there with no sauce spills...except Nic. I love irony. Hahahahahaha. Though my fingers are still orange.
Then on the way out, Trav sits down to Keno. He puts in $1.25 and in one play wins $33.75. He played our ages, his baseball & football numbers, 77 and 43 (my request). He cashed out. As any smart man would do. He is the luckiest SOB I've ever known.
Now that is a dining experience. And a blast.
P.S. All that AFTER successful holiday cookie making adventure!!
Spicier than our spicy Wild Ginger dinner? Yikes! And mmmmmm. And he is a lucky SOB ~ he's married to you, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteMer, times FIVE. I still can't feel my tongue, roof of my mouth, and bottom lip. They are numb from the spice. And I LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm telling Trav you said that. And will remind him often!!
It just doesn't make sense how one gets wing sauce on them when said one isn't even eating said wings! Hahahahaha Also, I was pretty sure la was doing to die since all she could say is Omg I can't feel...(insert part of face here)!
