I'm still in shock.
I started working with Lee Hector Harrison (LHH) a week ago. They are one of the companies that DIRECTV provided as part of my severance that helps with job searching. They approach your job search like project management (Wait, huh? Did you design this program just for me? Thanks so much!) and I've learned SO much about how to be successful in getting a job (and what I have NOT been doing correctly the last few months).
They have a book with 10 milestones that you work through. In preparation for meeting with my coach, I have been working through some exercises. Today, I filled out my interests, values, skills, etc. in effort to create a professional objective and positioning statement. I also came up with a career vision: In five years I will be a PMP certified Project Manager traveling for work. I will work for a fast-paced, trustworthy company where the process improvement work completed will be highly valued.
On the call today as we were discussing my goals (without my going into specifics but that I was interested in project management and user experience and how to best combine the two), he said to go to a particular section of their career resource network. And showed me that it has everything I need to prepare to apply for one of PMI®'s certification exams. It has over 50 hours (I think I need 32) and over $1000 of materials to aid in my certification. So, how about I become a PMP in the next three months?
Talk about Law of Attraction. Within hours!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. PMP stands for Project Management Professional. It's also been on my bucket list for a while. I can't WAIT to check it off!
Best thing I've read today! Yay!!!
