I have been so blessed to have amazing mentors in my life. Professionally, spiritually, emotionally. I had the pleasure of talking to one of them tonight. Even though the miles separate us, she's one of my cherished friends. Mary Lou called and we just laughed and laughed.
She is a kindred spirit. I met her at Jesus Community Church when I started going there 3 years ago and it felt like I've known her my whole life.
Her husband, Ted, is the love of her life and they've been married 67 years!! If I behave myself, I can say the same someday!!
A couple of years ago, I signed up for the women's mentoring program at JCC and was actually assigned two of them. Mary Lou and Jeannie. Even though that is officially over and I don't go to church there anymore to see them most often, I still kept them as my mentors!
I was lucky to be part of a program at church. But not everyone is so fortunate. If an official program isn't available to you, look around and find someone that has the qualities or skills that you want or need. As women, we need to support each other. If someone asks you to mentor them, say yes. Or have the courage to ask. You won't be sorry.
And Mary Lou... thanks for being one of the best. You are a treasure and I love you dearly!!
James 5:10 MSG
“Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course!"
