A glorious week. Our last day was rained out so we went to two movies. Haywire and Underworld: Awakening (which was 3D at the IMAX). We also found another little shopping area that had my favorite store of the whole trip. It's called the Zoo Gallery and I could have bought out the entire store.
We made reservations at Ruth's Chris...a steakhouse I've wanted to try in many cities. It was worth the wait. We had complimentary valet parking. When we walked in the door, there were four hostesses to greet us. First signs we would be spoiled. They served the best french bread ever, with soft, whipped butter. Their sweet tea was in the same class as McAlister's and our waitress was so sweet. They had a lot of seafood dishes, but come on. I was at a steakhouse. I had to get their signature dish. And it's the weirdest thing. I'm from Beef Country. And my best burger and best steak I've had...EVER...was in Florida. I had it prepared with blue cheese crumbles and the steaks are served on melted/browned butter. I've never had butter on my steak and this is the first time I've eaten steak without added sauce. So delicious. Since Travis butchers his own meat, I've grown accustomed to no fat or gristle ... in restaurants, I always have to pick around it. I didn't tonight. They serve their side dishes family style, with huge portions. We had green beans with roasted garlic and potatoes au gratin ("Idaho potatoes melted in three kinds of cheese" ... which humored me). And then dessert. For the first time this trip, we ordered dessert. Bread pudding and chocolate explosion. Heavenly. Our waitress took a great photo of CJ & I near their wine rack...that CJ wants in her house.
Destin, Florida. Where there are $1.675 million one acre beach front lots. Where only one door in a double doored entrance/exit opens (which would be fine if they could all come together and decide which door to keep closed...to prevent clutzy peeps like me from running into closed doors that appear to open). Where the "cold" season is in the 60s. Where we're considered a snow bird. And proud of it!
You treated us well. We will return.
