Random Acts Of Kindness

I am unbelievably overwhelmed by the amount of kindness I’ve received this last week.
On my second day, I woke up to three inches of snow on my car.  The Tahoe is pretty tall and I couldn’t reach the middle of the windshield so I turned on my wipers.  Not a good idea.  The snow was too heavy and it broke the driver’s side wiper.  I was able to get the snow off by defrosting the windows and it melted eventually (good thing I’m a paranoid sleeper during a new job – I was ready an hour early).  But the wiper wouldn’t work (stopped on far left and was hanging by my window).  And I really needed it to because it was still rain/snowing.  Work is only 2 miles away and I thought “If I can just get to work, I’ll be fine”.  I made it and then stressed about how to get anywhere else.  I called around to see if anyone did onsite repair, and no one within range did.  By the afternoon, I found a repair place that was pretty close and it had stopped raining so hard.  I made it there and the gal at the desk told me that they didn’t carry my model’s wiper for it to be replaced.  I asked where the nearest dealership was for Chevy and it was NOT close.  And it started raining again.  A mechanic came to the front and asked what was wrong.  We explained and he said, “Let’s take a look, maybe I can fix it”.  It turned out to be just a loose bolt holding the wiper on.  I can’t imagine how, what with it flopping around in the wind where it clearly wasn’t supposed to be!  It wasn’t broken after all!  WHEW.  He tightened the bolt and then wouldn’t let me pay him.  SO NICE.

Wednesday, when I was feeling exhausted from all of the learning I’m doing (which is also exhilarating and exciting!), I got up and went to the cafeteria to get some water.  While I was in there, a guy says to me “You’re new here, right?”  As can be seen with my temp badge sticker on my shirt.  I told him I was, that I was working for Mary and the User Experience Design team.  He said, “Oh yeah, I’ve heard about them and you!  Great work coming up!!”  We introduced ourselves – his name is Sam and he’s a tester.  I thought it was so kind of him to stop and make me feel welcome.

Then yesterday, the valet guy (it was complimentary – totally taking advantage of THAT!) said “I saw you leave the restaurant with your food.  I was going to get it for you and put it in your car, but you were too fast.”  Just the thought was awesome!  Awww.
And last, but not least.  My cousin and dear friend, Meridith, has done nothing but spoil me.  She bought my dinner last night, gave me awesome directions as a shortcut home AND then made sure I followed them (cuz I was gonna make a wrong turn!)  We’ve had a great time this week!  And I’m really looking forward to the weekend.  I’m getting my nails done, watching Brendan and Emery for a few hours then going to church with them.  And I’m really looking forward to a yummy Easter dinner on Sunday at their house.  I’m bringing cheesy potatoes.  YUM!

I am so incredibly blessed. I hope the same for you!

** I wrote this earlier with plans to post tonight. And more kindness just keeps coming. At the movie tonight (saw Mirror Mirror with Mer and Brendan) I left my card at the register and the nice young man, Andrew, remembered me and stopped me to return it. I didn't even know it was missing. AND THEN, while all that was going on I left my new phone (have had it three days) at the register and a nice lady asked Mer if it was hers. Unbelievable.
