Friday Favorites

This is not an original idea and the faves will vary week to week.  I stole it from a blog I follow, www.iowagirleats.com and it’s something I look forward to every Friday.  Thought I’d share the sharing!

Favorite Website: www.jacilynmblog.com this is my newest stalker-y obsession.

Favorite “Like” on Facebook:  Positively Positive.  http://www.positivelypositive.com/  I really love their messages. Thanks, Mer, for the great find!!

Favorite Memory:  Impromptu mini photo session with my friend, Trista.  We were in fits of laughter which caused not so great photos.  Her friend, Leslie, finally snapped a gem.

Favorite Bite:  Dinner with my sweetie at The Melting Pot.  The very best bite was the first of the chocolate fondue.  It was dark chocolate with crunchy peanut butter and a wild berry puree (to mimic the peanut butter and jelly combination). My first dip was a banana and it was heavenly.

Favorite Refreshment:  Citrus Mint tea from Allegro that is sold at the coffee bar at the Whole Foods Store.  It calls for spritzer water, but I don't like the carbonation so I just get it with tap water.  It's amazingly delicious.

Favorite Book:  Drop Dead Healthy by A.J. Jacobs.  “From the bestselling author of The Year of Living Biblically and The Know-It-All comes the true and truly hilarious story of one person’s quest to become the healthiest man in the world.

Hospitalized with a freak case of tropical pneumonia, goaded by his wife telling him, “I don’t want to be a widow at forty-five,” and ashamed of a middle-aged body best described as “a python that swallowed a goat,” A.J. Jacobs felt compelled to change his ways and get healthy. And he didn’t want only to lose weight, or finish a triathlon, or lower his cholesterol. His ambitions were far greater: maximal health from head to toe.

The task was epic. He consulted an army of experts— sleep consultants and sex clinicians, nutritionists and dermatologists. He subjected himself to dozens of different workouts—from Strollercize classes to Finger Fitness sessions, from bouldering with cavemen to a treadmill desk. And he took in a cartload of diets: raw foods, veganism, high protein, calorie restriction, extreme chewing, and dozens more. He bought gadgets and helmets, earphones and juicers. He poked and he pinched. He counted and he measured.

The story of his transformation is not only brilliantly entertaining, but it just may be the healthiest book ever written. It will make you laugh until your sides split and endorphins flood your bloodstream. It will alter the contours of your brain, imprinting you with better habits of hygiene and diet. It will move you emotionally and get you moving physically in surprising ways. And it will give you occasion to reflect on the body’s many mysteries and the ultimate pursuit of health: a well-lived life.”  -Barnes & Noble
Overview.

I’ve read all of his books and they are “laugh out loud” funny…making me look like an idiot in public places laughing to myself.   [I have a goal to read a book a week this summer.  So this may not necessarily be my favorite book, but the only book of the week.  If I read more than one, I’ll pick a fave.]

Favorite Movie:  Avengers  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/  It wasn’t as good as I expected (too much fighting, not enough story) but it was very entertaining nonetheless.

Favorite TV Show:  I watch a lot of TV.  Since I’ve been in Denver, I’ve been able to watch ABC, NBC, Fox and HBO shows on my iPad.  I miss CBS for their hilarious sitcoms and Showtime for their bold and edginess, but they are waiting for me on the DVR at home.  This week, the episode of GLEE (Prom-asaurus) is my favorite view.  Such talent!

Favorite Song: Halo by Jesse Campbell from The Voice.  http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/halo-the-voice-performance/id519574700?i=519574702  This song is in my top 10 favorites of all time and I just love this guy’s version.  He has a great voice.

Favorite Quote:  And oldie but a goodie.  “When someone shows you who they are, believe them.  The first time.  – Oprah via Maya Angelou

Favorite News:  Season 2 of Downton Abbey will be available on Hulu+ on July 7!  YAY!!
