Road To Good Health

Starting March 6, 2012, my hubby, sister and brother-in-law started our journey to good health.  We put together a plan and created a contest.  We are penalized $5 if we don’t eat according to plan, exercise to plan, or track our progress (daily food intake, exercise, and weight).  Then, we weigh every three months and whoever loses the most % amount gets the pot.  We’re doing 6 weigh-ins (the plan goes for 18 months).

My goal is to lose 1 pound/week and my goal weight is 143 lbs…my favorite number and it’s in the healthy range for my height!

Enter USANA Health Sciences.  Our Road To Good Health took a detour.  Starting January 7, 2013, we began the company RESET Challenge:  Destination Transformation.  The first 5 days is the RESET phase.  It’s 5 days of our shakes and bars where we curb the carb cravings.  It totally works…it’s freaking amazing. Then for the next three months we are doing the following:
  • USANA shake (low-glycemic, full of protein and good carbs…did you know that fiber is a carb?) for breakfast.
  • USANA bar for snack
  • Low-glycemic, nutritious lunch
  • Low-glycemic, nutritious snack (not movie popcorn, LOL)
  • USANA shake for dinner
We can add mix-ins like fruit, veggies, peanut butter, juices, milk or almond milk into our shakes.  There are so many ways to make them delicious, but I even like them just plain with water!

I find I’m WAY successful when I follow a schedule.  So I set up reminders in my phone for each meal and snack.  I also do better when I plan ahead – so I plan our lunches a week at a time.  I also contribute some of my success to not having any soda** for the last three months (97 days to be exact).

And last, but not least, doing this with my friends and family has been a ginormous help.  It is so important to have a support system in place when taking on such a challenge.  I say a million thanks to all of you!

Love & Prayers, Laura

**When glucose is slowly released into blood it is mostly burned as fuel.  When released quickly in significant amounts it will be stored as fat, as in soda (even diet).  Fructose is the natural sugar found in nature, like an apple or orange.  It doesn’t stimulate insulin and doesn’t spike blood sugar like glucose does.  So, though our products have “sugar” and “carbs” in them, they are the right ones for our good health.
