Grateful Month - Day 10

A picture of my parent's and/or grandparent's house

My mother took this photo and sent it to us on November 2.  They are roses from her yard.  This picture is very symbolic because my Grandma Gummerson grew roses that were the envy of town.  I can still picture her yard and smell those flowers.  So to see beautiful ones from my parent's yard is really cool.  Especially this late in the fall!  It's a trait my brother has, too - the skill to grow stunning roses.

I grew up in Declo, Idaho...a very small town in southeast Idaho.  My parents live in the same house that my dad and his sisters grew up in.  I graduated from the same school they did.  I helped farm on the land they farmed.  So many benefits from small town life.  The safety.  The sense of community.  And lifetime friendships (several friends on facebook I've known since kindergarten).  And my in-laws are close by.  They live 7 miles from my parents.  It's really a blessing that they are in the same area.

Spending a lot of time in Boise, Idaho with family, I always wanted to live in the big city (funny how Boise 30 years ago was "the big city").  Today, I find myself living in a town VERY similar to Declo and after 7 years of living here, I'm seeing those same benefits.

Sometimes I wish I was 12 years old again.  Riding bikes with the neighbors, exploring old houses and not a care in the world.  But that is short lived when I think of all of the awesomeness that comes with being an adult.  My life isn't perfect, but it's pretty fabulous.  I've stopped to smell the roses.  Have you?
