Friday Favorites

Favorite Website:  www.usana.com I really love this product.  I have taken vitamins, used body wash and shampoo forever, so why not use the best?  I’m considering selling it, that’s how much I love it!  And for those that have heard me go on and on about NOT being an entrepreneur…look out.  I may have changed my mind!

Favorite Facebook:  My friend, Mandilyn, aka Kissy Suzuki.  I look forward to her perfectly wordsmithed posts (and subsequent comments) about her many adventures living on a farm, raising 2 adorable, precious children, being married to the man of her dreams, and navigating this thing called life in such an admirable way.

Favorite Memory:  Snort laughing at the movie, “The Dictator” with my cousin and friend, Meridith.  I love that we share the same ridiculous sense of humor and get to spend quality time together.  There is something so therapeutic about laughing and even more so laughing with someone.  Such a joy.

Favorite Bite:  My friend, Lori is getting married and our friend, Stacey, hosted her bridal shower.  She put together the most amazing dessert I have ever seen, tasted, experienced.  And it was an experience.  Riesling, Chocolate raspberry port, lemoncello freeze, chocolate covered strawberry, dark chocolate bits, and a cookie like none other.  And all of this was gluten free.  This was Sunday, and I’m still thinking about it.  It deserves a visual:
Favorite Refreshment:  Aveda Tea.  It is caffeine free, artificial sweetener free, and the most amazing flavor ever.  And you can pronounce all of the ingredients.  It’s a little spendy, but since I’m trying to find good, healthy alternatives to soda, this is actually cheaper.  At night, I put two bags into the coffee pot in my hotel (for 12 cups of water).  I pour the hot tea into my Nalgene bottles and refrigerate overnight.  In the morning, add ice, and I have iced tea!

Favorite Book:  Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. “FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE BESTSELLING BIOGRAPHIES OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN AND ALBERT EINSTEIN, THIS IS THE EXCLUSIVE BIOGRAPHY OF STEVE JOBS.
Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.
At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering.
Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.
Driven by demons, Jobs could drive those around him to fury and despair. But his personality and products were interrelated, just as Apple’s hardware and software tended to be, as if part of an integrated system. His tale is instructive and cautionary, filled with lessons about innovation, character, leadership, and values.” From the Barnes and Noble Review
I now want to work at Apple.

Favorite Movie:  Snow White and the Huntsman.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1735898/ My virtual movie date with Scott.  This is the best movie I’ve seen all year.  It was witty, action-packed, had drama, romance, evil (brilliantly portrayed by my favorite actress, Charlize Theron) and everything else you want to experience in a movie.

Favorite TV Show:  Downton Abbey (Season 1, Episode 6).  I can’t get enough of this show.  I’m trying to drag out season 1 until July when Season 2 is on Hulu.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to!

Honorable Mention Favorite TV Show:  So You Think You Can Dance – Season 9 Episode 1.  I watched this last week when I was home.  Travis and I haven’t missed an episode since the beginning of Season 2 and if I had to pick only one television show to watch from now going forward, it would be this.  I won’t get to see it until I get home (it’s only available on Hulu on the web, not mobile devices yet) but that’s okay.  It’s not the same unless I can watch it with Travis.  We talk about it, rewind awesome dances over and over and really enjoy every minute of it!

Favorite Song:  Breath of Life by Florence + The Machine.  http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/breath-of-life/id522480010?i=522480011.  It’s on the soundtrack for Snow White and the Huntsman.  Great song for the repeat button!

Favorite Quote:  “Never say yes to something that you wouldn’t say yes to 500 times!”  As stolen from Kissy’s facebook page.

Favorite News:  Oprah Book Club 2.0!!  I have really missed her book club.  So glad it’s starting up again and with awesome digital features!
